30th Day of the Child a big splash with kids
It was a wet and wild time when Bacon County Family Connection celebrated its 30th Annual Day of the Child event April 26.
Day of the Child 2025 was a unique one — the 30th anniversary of the event in Alma. To celebrate this special day — and give the kids a treat — the collaborative decided to host a “Wet & Wild” event featuring water slides, sprinklers, wading pools, water games, splash balls, and a Alma-Bacon County Fire Department ladder truck spraying water from high above the event.
Dia Del Niño, or Day of the Child, is an annual celebration throughout Mexico. This day recognizes children, their importance to society and their well-being. The celebration of children was started in the U.S. on April 30, 1997 and promoted by Pat Mora, a literary advocate and award winning author who thought people in the U.S. should join many Latin American countries in this celebration.
Held in Alma’s downtown Goldwasser Park since its inception, BCFC’s Day of the Child features free food, games, prizes, activities, information and fun. The event is always held on the last Saturday in April. BCFC’s collaborative partners are the back bone of the event volunteering to host booths featuring games, giveaways, activities, prizes, and resource/information sharing.
“The Day of the Child would never have been so successful if it wasn’t for Bacon County Family Connection’s wonderful collaborative partners,” says BCFC Coordinator Laura Crozier. “They, literally, are the event.”
